丹江口水库总库容339亿立方米，水域面积1050平方公里，水质长年保持在I类饮用水标准，水质良好，矿化度低，ph值、总硬度适中，水体中主要离子含量都在正常范围内，可直接饮用，堪称“世界最大的自来水厂”，被誉为“中国水都”。
